The New Computer Virus

I decided to do a blog about viruses, worms and Trojans, for two reasons; first I really did not have an understanding what these terms actually meant and how they affected your computer, all I knew was I didn’t want to get one and the second reason is for a school research project. Not that long ago I had some problems with my computer, not all of my pages where loading, so I had my son take a look at it for me. He told me I had a virus and told me what I needed to do in order to correct my problem. He ended up reverting my system back to its original state and by doing this I was able to use my computer again; however I lost a lot of valuable data (I did not backup any of my files). Anyway in doing research, I came across an article title “New computer virus" and was intrigued, so I read it. The article was talking about how we hear so much about viruses these days that we are becoming somewhat complacent about them.

The article went on to say that computer users are getting more e-mail viruses savvy, so that now the people who design them have to start to find new ways of sending viruses. It seems that now they are targeting video and audio download sites.

One of the most popular sites on the internet these days is You Tube...a site you can upload and download videos, but not to worry since sites like You Tube and Itunes should be safe. They scan their files to make sure they are virus free. What gets people in trouble is when a user clicks on a link on the video that takes them to another site...that's when you could get a virus.

If you are in the habit of doing this, then be mindful that you may be unwillingly affecting your computer system. You will know that you are infected because you computer will do something it didn't do before or maybe something just stops working.

The author went on to say that a virus will not break your computer, although it can be a pain in the neck; a virus infects software...and that can be fixed.

The author offered some appropriate application so that you can keep from getting a virus and that is make sure to have some "Anti virus protection and a few other things that would be helpful, Norton or AVG which is free. You also need to have anti spyware and ad aware and all of these software programs can be downloaded for free from http://www.download.com/ .
Lets all be mindful that there are people whose only agenda is to either destroy your computer or cause you a lot of frustration and they are coming up with new ways to affect our systems. We need to be mindful that even when we are on trusted sites there is now a new way that we can become infected.

STOP DON’T CLICK, THE COMPUTER YOU SAVE MAY BE YOUR OWN.

It's kinda interesting that they are now sending the viruses via video and audio. Kinda scary.

The information presented is good, it does not help me much because I am very familiar with computer and problems that can occur with a pc (I work with computer for a living, and it is my major). I am very scared of loosing my data so when I built my pc I made sure I created a RAID configuration. It essentially works like this. You have 2 hard drives; you can only really use one of them because everything you do is saved onto the other. It helps if you get a virus or if your other hard drive fails. All you need to do is take out the infected one (or dead), and your pc will boot directly to the second. I HIGHLY recommend this set up to any and everyone.
